Happy New Year! It's 2020, and I have to wait another year until these beloved crackers return. I guess I could have stocked up on them, but they would not have lasted long in my house. Why are such delicious things seasonal? Do we not have parties and eat cheeseboards and charcuterie year-round?
After having these crackers for years at holiday parties, I finally purchased these for myself. Not sure what I was holding out for, but these are pretty much everything that I want in a cracker.
For once, I agree with the product description. It brings style AND substance. Yessss.
Yay Canada - y'all make excellent biscuits. Part of the reason why these taste so good, I suspect, is because of the palm oil. Palm oil is basically a hydrogenated oil, which makes everything taste good.
1) All the crackers have a nice scalloped edge and a crisp, buttery texture. They are strong enough to withstand dips and cheese but remain light and pleasant to eat.
2) All of the flavors are good. The most plain one is the garlic. Even though the garlic flavor is pretty pronounced, it is the most "neutral" tasting cracker, which makes it an excellent vehicle with a strong cheese.
3) My favorite one is the red chili. It has a nice mild spice and a savoriness that makes it so delicious on its own. The rosemary is also very pleasant - it's seasoned well and the rosemary adds this earthy but peppery flavor. LOVE. Maybe the rosemary is the reason why this product is seasonal.
4) I have gone through three boxes of these crackers. Alas, no more until next holiday. $3.49 per box of three sleeves.
TL;DR: Trader Joe's Scalloped Crackers Trio. I want these all year round. 9 out of 10. Mantou Joe repurchase? Definitely in mass quantities if A would let me.
