Trader Joe's Original Coconut Creamer

A few weeks ago, I went through a weaksauce phase where I could not drink my coffee black. Nowadays, I can drink my coffee black but most days I choose not to. There's a difference y'all. I normally like my coffee with a bit of milk, unless I'm lazy or the coffee has too much star power and demands the spotlight. Creamer on the other hand? I shun. The way I see it, coffee creamer is kind of like adding soy sauce to your Chinese food. It's gratuitous and doesn't really make the food taste inherently better, and the only reason you would use it is because it's so terrible it's almost beyond saving. That happened to be the case with this one coffee I was trying desperately to finish.

I should say I had low expectations for this product - mostly because I'm not a huge coconut fan. But $1.49 for a pint. Not terrible for a product with 2 week fridge life capacity.

Coconut milk. Coconut cream. Cane syrup. And some other stuff. I suppose this is a coconut-lover's dream. Certainly not mine. Not even close. The coconut flavor came out most distinctly with a medium to light-medium roast, and it was weird. Unpalatably weird, probably because of the bean. I tried with a dark roast and a light roast. Could not down the coffee at all. I ended up adding more regular milk to drown out the coconut taste, which is pretty much drowned out by the way when added to a dark roast coffee. I suppose this creamer COULD work if the coffee itself had a flavor compatible with coconut, but I haven't experimented enough with this to say for sure. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Note that this is coconut creamer and NOT coconut COFFEE creamer. Actually, it might go well with black tea to make an interesting coconut milk tea. The TJ's website also says you can use this in smoothies or over cereal as a dairy milk alternative, so that's probably the route I'll go.  I want to purge my fridge of this.

TL;DR: Trader Joe's Original Coconut Creamer. Great if you love coconuts. Kind of useless if you don't. 4 out of 10.
