Trader Joe's Tortilla Chips Seasoned with Brussels Sprouts, Garlic, Onion & Parsley

Brussels sprouts are like the awkward, geeky kid in high school who received little attention and then had a sudden "glow up." And now it's like the hottest vegetable on the block - move over kale. In late fall, TJs carries ginormous stalks of brussels sprouts which are perfect for roasting. So while we wait, there's saute kits, salads, and TORTILLA CHIPS. Take my money.

This is a stroke of marketing finesse. We all know that there's something marginally vegetable about this snack. It's a tortilla chip at the end of the day. Note that at $2.69 for 8 oz - this is also notably less bang for your buck compared to the other tortilla chips available at TJ's.

Highly highly skeptical that actual brussels sprouts flavor can be imputed upon these chips but intrigued nonetheless. Do brussels sprouts even have a flavor? Sort of.

The actual chip base consists of white corn flour, rice flour, and potato flakes, which to means this is probably lighter than most other chips.

The lighting here doesn't really show that there are in fact miniscule green-tinged flecks on the chip surface. A says they taste "healthy," not in an inedible cardboard kind of way, but it's lighter, less salty, and not as hefty as something like Food Should Taste Good multigrain tortilla chips. Not a chip I'd eat with chili or any serious dip. They don't taste as "fried" as some tortilla chips but have a nice light, airy, crispy texture. As for flavor, there is this vague dusting of "vegetable taste" but I don't think anyone could really identify a true brussels sprouts flavor. The garlic and onion are there but not overpowering - if anything they just add to the overall vegetable vibe of the product.

I suppose there might be a parent out there who might use this in a ploy to get their kids to "eat vegetables." But be not mistaken - there's not actual vegetable here. Which is fine. I bought this product to eat chips, not veggies. It tastes pretty good on its own. Not something to get terribly excited about and stock up on but a nice option for fall snacking.

TL;DR: Trader Joe's Tortilla Chips Seasoned with Brussels Sprouts, Garlic, Onion & Parsley. Lighter tortilla chips with a vague vegetable influence. 7 out of 10. Mantou Joe Repurchase? I like it but I don't love it. Probably not.
