Originally, I was going to use this post to rant more about Zagitova/Medvedeva/what's up with US women's figure skating (I'm clearly not over it :P) but tomorrow is March 1st and the world has moved on. OR HAVE THEY. The World Championships are in 3 weeks y'all. I miss the Olympics. Even with all the mess in the world, it's the one time every two years where everyone comes together to witness greatness across multiple disciplines. I mean..even the people that didn't medal are amazing. They did something right to get to the Olympics, and they are heck of a lot more talented than the average person. So if we're continuing with Olympic comparisons to Trader Joe's products...pick any person that you find something admirable/positive about that didn't medal, and consider that person the equivalent of this tea in Trader Joe's world. I'm kidding of course. I'm pretty sure I can find way more things to like about most Olympians than can be said about this tea. :P
This tea came into my possession recently and I figured I'd give it a go (before passing it off into the communal tea drawer at work where I deposit all the teas that I don't drink. #MarieKondo). I just didn't have enough faith that peppermint and cinnamon would work.
Tisane = herbal tea. Aka herbs and spices or whatever but no actual tea leaves. Can't say this is something I would normally reach for.
But the ingredients are simple.
My first thoughts were, "this is weird but it's not bad." How pleasing you find this stands or falls with your taste for peppermint, which I think is a take it or leave it type tea. There isn't an overwhelming amount of cinnamon. Peppermint definitely dominates but there's enough of a warmth from the cinnamon that produces that dual warming-cooling effect that the product description states. I think that sensation is what I find most interesting about this tea, not so much the taste. The taste isn't bad at all. I tolerate and even like peppermint on some days so long as it's not overdone or combined with something terrible like green tea. I find it soothing enough and it's not too bad to drink when it's no longer piping hot. So I guess I like it? Also, I do love the pyramid tea-temple shape, and you can actually tell that they've used real peppermint leaves and bits of cinnamon bark. The pyramid helps diffuse the tea better IMO. Plus, at least in my favorite brand, these tea temples are biodegradable and don't contain any plastic. Not sure if that is 100% the same case here. Hopefully it is?
So if I had to make an Olympic comparison...I'd say this tea is Choi Da Bin. Except it's not a great comparison because I LOVE Choi Da Bin and this tea is aiite.
$2.99 for a box of 20 organic tea temples. Repurchase? Ehhh...maybe, maybe not. But if it lands in my possession again, I'm fine to keep it.
TL;DR: Trader Joe's Organic Peppermint Cinnamon Herbal Tea. Hot n Cold. Like Katy Perry. 5.5 out of 10.
I don't know why but I really really love this tea. I've been sipping on it post-dinner for a little sweetness.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Post! Lot of information is helpful in some or the other way. Keep updating organic peppermint
